"The Pinot Noir variety has been in Australia since the early 1800s. It was one of the varieties brought into Australia by John McArthur in 1817 and by James Busby in the 1830s. 

CSIRO Merbein released a vinestock of Pinot Noir in 1971, taken from cuttings first planted at Mount Pleasant in the 1920s. This is referred to as the MV6 (mothervine) clone." Wine Australia

Mount Monument Pinot Noir is MV6 clone. This is a notoriously fickle variety but has started to thrive in the Macedon region due to its cool climate producing exceptional wine.

Vintage rating 2015: 9/10 for Macedon Red wines. Variety: 100% Pinot Noir. Clone: M.V.6. 

Vineyard: 2.5 acres planted on a north eastern aspect. Trellis: Hand pruned bi-lateral canes with vertical shoots, positioned with four moveable foliage wires.

Region: Macedon Ranges, Victoria, Australia. Altitude: Approximately 600 metres above mean sea level.

Soil type: Grey loam over silica clays with smatterings of ironstone buckshot and quartz present.

Wine Style: Seasonal conditions are reflected in ripeness levels and the depth of texture; however, all years produce excellent food styles showing deep colour from the unique soil influence, mixed with defined fruit characters and excellent length of finish.

Winemaking: Wild-fermented with 30% whole bunches before being matured for 12 months in French oak (30% new). Alc./Vol. 14.0% | Total Sulphur 12 ppm | Total Acidity 5.4 g/L | Residual sugar 0.08 g/L | 187 dozen produced

Notes The 2015 Pinot Noir exhibits great structure, concentration and intricate, exotic fruit characters. There are notes of forest floor, blackberry bramble, damson plum, along with crunchy red and cranberry with a fine tannin, drying finish of rose water, hazelnut and orange peel.
